  • (Female, 20s, Strong Comedic Actress, Alto/Mezzo)

The sun-kissed embodiment of a 90s ‘Beach based Californian TV show’ fantasy. She’s been raised in a world where beauty is currency, and in Santa Monica, looking flawless while saving lives is not just encouraged, it’s expected. Trained to perform heroism with a hair flip, she’s both empowered and trapped by her image. But behind the gloss and glam is a woman whose entire identity has been shaped by what others see in her. She’s confident, yes — but also scared of what happens to her love of lifeguarding when that beauty starts to fade.

Her journey forces her to confront whether she ever had value outside of how she looked — and she discovers that she absolutely does. She’s not here to reject beauty — in fact, she celebrates it. She believes you can want to feel hot in a swimsuit and also be capable, brave, and kind. The problem isn’t beauty — it’s when your worth is defined by it. Through comedy, chaos, and unexpected friendship, she learns that beauty isn’t what you project — it’s what you rescue in yourself.

This is a complex and high-energy lead role. Requires excellent comedic timing, physical confidence, and strong vocals. The actor must be able to balance satire with sincerity, and superficial sparkle with real emotional depth.

Think: Pamela Anderson meets Elle Woods.

    Vocal Style: Musical theatre/pop-belt

  • (Male, 30’s, strong character actor, Tenor/Base)

At first glance, Victor is everything a beach boss should be: confident, charming, authoritative — and yes, very good-looking in that 90s alpha-male kind of way. He commands a room with ease, tells a great story, and always seems to know exactly what to say to win people over. He presents himself as a leader, a protector, and a man of integrity — someone who takes pride in tradition and "doing things right." But under the surface is something far murkier. His charisma is a tool, his authority a mask.

Victor is the kind of man who’s been allowed to hide in plain sight. His toxic behaviour is wrapped in confidence, his insecurity disguised as control. He’s not a pantomime villain — he genuinely believes he’s doing what’s best, even as he twists the truth for his own gain. His downfall isn’t just satisfying — it’s a reckoning.

Victor is charming, menacing, and ultimately pathetic. Our Victor must be able to ooze charisma and present a convincing villainous arc.

Think: David Hasselhoff meets Scar from the Lion King.

Vocal Style: Character Tenor / Bass leaning

  • (Male, 20s–30s, Comedic Role, Tenor)

A fixer, a charmer, and a bit of a rogue. Fred has a criminal past, but he’s not ashamed of it — he’s the kind of guy who’ll bend the rules if it means doing the right thing. Think modern-day Robin Hood with a toolbox. He’s loyal, clever, and full of dry humour, but life in Spray has left him feeling stuck.

Fred is simple. He will try to make a jetski out of a rubber dinghy without fear. But he’s not stupid. He’s trying. Fred loves his wife, but their relationship is strained, and he’s starting to drift. When the Lifeguard arrives, it sparks something in him — not just attraction, but a forgotten sense of possibility.

At heart, Fred’s a good man looking for a reason to believe in something again. Our Fred needs to be a strong comedic actor whilst being able to confidently show his vulnerable side.

Think:  Peter Kay meets Ray (Princess and The Frog)

    Vocal Style: Tenor

  • (Female, 20s–30s, Strong Vocalist, Emotional Depth, Alto/Mezzo)

Bold and honest with her immediate reactions and words, Rose is, under the surface, intelligent, driven, and bursting with ideas — but constantly overlooked. Rose feels like she’s stuck playing small while everyone around her coasts. Her relationship with Fred is loving but stagnant. She sees how lost he is, and it breaks her heart — but she’s tired of being the one who keeps everything afloat.

When The Lifeguard arrives, Rose sees a fantasy: freedom, glamour, America. Everything Rose thinks she’s missing. That admiration slowly evolves into confrontation, growth, and ultimately, self-empowerment. This is a complex and rewarding role with sharp emotional turns, comedic vulnerability, and a satisfying transformation into a confident, respected leader.

Rose has fierce intelligence, quiet sadness, biting wit, and fierce potential. This is for a performer who can show both fire and fragility — and grow into something fierce.

Think: Kathy Burke meets Donna Moss (The West Wing)

Vocal Style: Strong belt/mix, emotional ballads

  • (Female, 30s, Dry Comedic Delivery, Alto/Mezzo)

The team’s grump. Miserable, monosyllabic, and addicted to paperwork… or so it seems. Sandra is secretly carrying a lifetime of guilt, shame and fear, and only shows her hard and official exterior… Finally unveiled in Act 2. Requires dry, deadpan delivery with a deeply emotional payoff. Ultimately a tragicomic hero.

    Vocal Style: Soprano

  • (Female, 20’s-30’s, Versatile Comedic Role, Soprano)

Denise is the town of Spray’s one-woman Greek chorus. She’s everyone and everywhere — taxi driver, beautician, police officer, bartender… The list goes on. She darts in and out of scenes, slipping between roles with lightning speed, always armed with a quip, a raised eyebrow, and a knowing glance.

Her humour is quick, self-aware, and deliciously meta — she knows she's in a musical and isn't afraid to break the fourth wall. But underneath her comic bravado and oportunist self-employed mindset, Denise has a sharp emotional intelligence. She recognises people for who they are before they do. She becomes an unexpected moral compass for The Lifeguard — nudging her towards growth with just the right mix of sarcasm and sincerity. Think of her as the soul of Spray: warm, messy, funny, wise — and always watching.

Our Denise must have a strong stage presence, comic instincts and vocal range.

Think: Ariel meets Melissa McCarthy in ‘Identity Thief’

    Vocal Style: Flexible
