Spraywatch:
A Beautiful Rescue
A New Musical, Written and Composed by Hywel Evans
About the Show.
Set between the sun-kissed shores of Santa Monica and the rain-soaked sands of a struggling British seaside town, Spraywatch follows The Lifeguard, a bronzed 90s beach icon, as she navigates the bleak and bizarre town of Spray, hoping to whip its lifeguards into shape and win the coveted “Best Beach” award. But things in Spray aren’t quite what they seem. The beach is permanently closed, the team is chaotic at best, and a shadowy figure lurks beneath the surface. What begins as a beach rescue mission turns into something much darker — and much funnier.
Described as ‘Barbie meets The Book of Mormon’, the show offers an alternative take on body image, identity, and seaside bureaucracy — with plenty of slow-mo. With a sharp script, original songs, and a fully Northern cast, the show promises an unconventional night of theatre that’s closer to stand-up comedy than classic show tunes.
